More Reasons To Drink Coffee

February 8, 2018

Coffee is more than just black bean water folks. Coffee is healthy, and science confirms it!

You Can Drink Your Antioxidants

Coffee is so dense with polyphenols (like cocoa and red wine) that 3-5 cups a day can provide up to 60% of your daily antioxidant needs!

Why are antioxidants important? Antioxidants are the 'cleaners' of the toxins in your body. Conditions like, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, all show signs of high toxin levels. So once the antioxidants have done their magic on the toxins ("free radicals") in your body, they will then naturally flush out of your body in time (tie this to when you're told to "drink water after your massage to flush the 'toxins' out").

Burn Fat

Coffee is a stimulant. Stimulants boost your heart rate. Increased heart rate equals faster metabolism! Take a look at a nutrition label on most any fat burning supplement, there's a good chance caffeine is listed in the ingredients.

Quick tip: save money and make yourself an espresso shot (find a good espresso machine!) and drink it 30 minutes prior to working out. Save yourself the packaged pre-workout mix!

Good For the Heart

Habitual coffee consumption in large epidemiological studies is associated with reduced mortality, both for all-cause and cardiovascular deaths. In addition, coffee intake is associated with lowering the risk of heart failure, and stroke. (1) Surprisingly, coffee is even associated with neutral to reduced risks for heart arrhythmia even though many people feel it raises their heartbeat and makes them feel “jittery.”

Increase Endurance

Caffeine can allow an athlete to train at a greater power output and/or to train longer. It has also been shown to increase speed and/or power output in simulated race conditions. These effects have been found in activities that last as little as 60 seconds or as long as 2 hours. There is less information about the effects of caffeine on strength; however, recent work suggests no effect on maximal ability, but enhanced endurance or resistance to fatigue. (2)

Great! So COFFEE is good for you; now the additives you choose to flavor it with, that's a different story, for another time.

If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, you may to your health care provider prior to taking up daily coffee drinking.

Bottoms up!
